CHARLOTTE, N.C. --Thursday marks two years since the death of Keith Scott.

He was shot and killed by a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer on Sept. 20, 2016.

Some community groups have now dubbed this week as Keith Scott Week.  Their goal is to host positive events in his honor that will help the city move forward.

Just last month, Keith Scott’s widow Rakeiya Scott, filed a civil lawsuit against the City of Charlotte and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department after the shooting was ruled justified by the district attorney.

While CMPD officer Brentley Vinson was cleared of any wrongdoing, attorneys for the Scott family say they believe errors were made in how the department handled the situation.

A vigil to remember Keith Scott is set for Thursday night in Charlotte.
