CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A man has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a weapon into occupied property after shooting at a sheriff's deputy and wounding a 12-year-old boy.

The boy was shot while waiting for the school bus at around 7:30 a.m Thursday.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found the 12 year old with life-threatening injuries. Police say a deputy heard gunshots in the 1200 block of Sugar Creek Road and was shot by Daniels when he went to investigate.

Daniels got into a car, driven by another suspect, and led police on a chase through Charlotte before he was caught on Hoskins Road and Woodman Avenue.

The boy shot in the crossfire wasn't an intended target and was simply waiting for his school bus. He is recovering and will reportedly be OK.

Police are still looking for the suspect who drove the getaway car.
