Low storm chances will be the norm through Saturday for the area. The exception will be for the mountains and foothills where isolated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms are possible. The temperature will stay on the warm side of average with afternoon highs in the upper 80s each day across the Piedmont, upper 70s for the mountains.

The Autumnal Equinox occurs Saturday. This is when the direct rays of the sun are on the equator and moving into the Southern Hemisphere. With a decreasing sun angle, temperatures will have to cool as we approach October. Long range guidance points to some cooler air arriving around that time.
