CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Western NC and the Charlotte region still have some time to prepare for possible power outages, gusty winds and possible flooding. Florence's storm track will be key in controlling what we get or not.

  • 5-10" of rain is possible
  • If the storms continues south, rainfall totals will drop along with gustier winds
  • Heavier and steadier rain will play out Sunday through Tuesday

As of this late Thursday post, we are on the soggier and gustier side of the storm track now. Thus, 5-10" of rain is possible, with gusty winds to 40 or 50 mph starting Friday.

Richmond County is under a Tropical Storm Watch. Gusts to the east could push 60 to 70 mph.

Gusty winds, saturated soil, trees still in canopy and we have a recipe for power outages. So, ask yourself, "How would I survive several days without power?" That is the guide to how you need to prepare.

I am hoping the EURO's more SW track plays out. If so, the core of the storm is further south and our rainfall totals drop along with the gustier winds.

We will get some rain Saturday. But, the steadier and heavier rain will play out Sunday through Tuesday of next week.
