The CIAA has been taking bids from cities on the East Coast.

For the first time in a while, the Queen City has competition from Baltimore, Norfolk and Richmond.

Charlotte City councilman James Mitchell says the city's bid includes competitive hotel rates, playing games at both the Bojangles Coliseum and Spectrum Center and increasing the city's scholarship contribution.

"This is more than basketball, I think basketball is just one piece but it is about school spirit," said Mitchell. "It's about economic impact and being the city that will really embrace them."

Tom Murray, with the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, released a statement about the city's bid saying, "We are extremely proud of the strong partnership we've established with the CIAA, these last 13 years and hope to have the opportunity to continue hosting this event in future years."
