RALEIGH, N.C. -- After a week of heat and humidity, we are expecting a better chance for scattered showers and storms this weekend.

  • Chance of showers and storms on Saturday and Sunday
  • Cooler on Saturday
  • Florence will be off the East Coast on Wednesday

A cold front will drop into North Carolina from Virginia on Saturday. This front will stall over the state into Sunday morning and then lift back to the north as a warm front. The front will trigger more clouds and a better chance for scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.

Through the rest of the night, skies will be partly cloudy with some areas of fog forming overnight into early Saturday.

On Saturday, skies will be partly cloudy with a chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. With the increased rain chance, temperatures will be a little lower. More clouds are in the forecast for Sunday with another chance for scattered showers and storms.  Daytime highs will be near normal on Sunday.

In the tropics, we continue to monitor the westward movement of Florence in the Atlantic. The current forecast from the National Hurricane Center places the storm off the East Coast of the United States by Wednesday. It is still not clear where Florence will go over time. We will continue keep you updated throughout the weekend and next week.
