DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. -- When Oak Grove takes the field on Friday against North Davidson, they will be playing in their first 2A Central Carolina Conference game ever.

The Grizzlies won their first varsity football game in school history two weeks ago against Carver. Not only are they making more history, but head coach Mark Holcomb heads back to the sideline he ruled for 13 seasons.

Leaving in 2017 to become the head coach at the new Davidson County school, Holcomb left behind a powerhouse program that he helped guide. His offensive coordinator, Brian Flynn, was named the head coach.

In his second season, Flynn has led the Black Knights to a 1-1 record. Both schools are coming off of losses. North Davidson had a bye week after losing to Davie 21-14. After opening with a 40-12 win against Carver, Oak Grove lost to HP Christian last week 41-7.

Both teams regrouped after the losses and look to open the conference schedule with strong performances.
