ZEBULON, N.C. -- A puppy is lucky to be alive after it was found tied to a tree near a Zebulon swamp.

• A puppy named Nash was found with a rope tied around its neck
• He was found covered in maggots and had wounds on his neck
• Nash will be put up for adoption once he recovers

The SPCA of Wake County says the tiny puppy named Nash was found with a rope tied around its neck.

A woman was hanging laundry nearby when she heard Nash calling for help.

When she went to free him, he was covered in maggots and had wounds on his neck.

"It turns out they were coming from his neck, where he had been sliced open. Whenever I picked him up, he lied back in my arms. He was so relieved somebody had found him."

Vet partners with the SPCA treated Nash for his injuries.

The puppy has since been adopted and in his forever home.
