RALEIGH, N.C. – Governor Roy Cooper’s office has extended its call for all U.S. and N.C. flags to be lowered through Sunday in honor of Senator John McCain.

  • Governor Cooper has extended the call to lower flags until Sunday at sunset.
  • John McCain is expected to be laid to rest Sunday.

Funeral services for McCain will be held in Washington D.C. Saturday and he is expected to be laid to rest at the U.S. Naval Academy Cemetery Sunday.

"John McCain was a true American hero who served his country with honor throughout his life, and our nation has lost a great man," said Governor Cooper. "Our prayers are with his family and all those who loved him and served with him."
