CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Queen City is mourning after a popular high school football star passed away this weekend. 

  • Davyne "Flash" Simpson was the QB for Independence High School.
  • He was found unconscious on Aug. 11 and had been in the hospital since.
  • #PrayForFlash has been trending on social media. 

Family members of an Independence High School football player Davyne "Flash" Simpson say he passed away this weekend.

 

 

 

They say he was found unconscious on Aug. 11 and had been in the hospital since. 

Now, his own Independence, as well as other high schools around Charlotte are showing their love and support for Flash. The hashtag, #PrayForFlash started last week. 

The Independence High School football team honored their quarterback by posing with his jersey on picture day.

Other schools like Hopewell and Northside Christian Academy are honoring the young man by wearing a #9 sticker on their helmets.
