SALISBURY, N.C. -- A Confederate monument has been vandalized in Salisbury.

  • Someone tossed paint on the "Fame" memorial
  • Advocates asked for the monument to be taken down last year
  • There are no suspects

Police say someone tossed paint on the memorial known as "Fame" on West Innes Street.

Last year, a group of advocates asked city officials to take the monument down.

Leaders say the General Assembly would have to approve any move to remove it or relocate it.

Crews worked to remove the paint from the statue Saturday.

There are no suspects at this time.
