YORK COUNTY, S.C. -- A York County judge has granted a request to toss out more than 900 indictments.

  • A York County judge had decided to grant a request that tosses out more than 900 indictments.
  • The hearing was held last week.
  • He denied the request to discharge the grand jury.

A hearing was held last week.

A detective from the Rock Hill Police Department testified he was the sole witness for 343 cases, even though he was the lead investigator for just 29 of them.

The lawyers who signed the motion to disband the grand jury said on average, the jury would have took about 39 seconds to decide each indictment.

The solicitor argued the grand jury had been meeting for months and their deliberations were short because they were accustomed to the proceedings and a majority of the 904 cases were for minor offenses.

The judge ruled Friday to grant the defendant's motion to quash the indictments.

However, he denied their request to discharge the grand jury.
