Parron Baxter was rafting on the Catawba River in Fort Mill when they noticed some kids jumping off a rock painted with the Confederate flag and racial slurs. It's something he says they will will never forget.

"We had jaws dropped. We couldn’t believe it. Just a myriad of emotions we couldn’t express at the time. We aren’t used to such overt racism in our daily lives,” Baxter said.

He also says he felt defeated and confused.

Baxter has reached out to the local NAACP and hopes the rock will be cleaned soon.

"We need to squash up front racism immediately. Cover the rock up and maybe have some sort of education," said Baxter.

A fisheries specialist with the Department of Natural Resources said he's never seen anything like this before.
