Family and friends say Maddox played in several basketball teams around Charlotte and had dreams of one day playing in the NBA.

Friends and family came together to honor his memory, and many say he touched their lives and pushed them to be better people on and off the court.

“Every time I get on the court, every time I do something, I gotta do this for him. I gotta do this for Mackenzie, his little sister, his family. I gotta represent him now," said Mikey’s friend and teammate Elijah Sidbury.

Right now there have not been any charges filed against the driver in this case.
