HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- More than two dozen sailors are safe after getting caught out on Lake Norman during Thursday’s storms.

Officials say several sailboats overturned during the storms.

Twenty-six people had to be rescued.

“We found numerous boats in distress on Lake Norman. Apparently a sailing school or sailing club was on the Lake Norman got caught a little short, started experiences some overturned boats and some boats in the water,” said Bill Suthard with the Huntersville Fire Department.

Luckily everyone was wearing a life jacket and they all made it to safety.
