HIGH POINT, N.C. -- An 18-year-old pregnant woman and her unborn child have died after a shooting in High Point.

  • Police responded to the scene at Thissell Street Monday night.
  • Corey Ray, 32, and Anastasia Ray, 18, were found with gunshot wounds.
  • Anastasia and her unborn child died at the hospital. 

Officers were called to a home on Thissell Street around 10:30 p.m. Monday after receiving calls of shots fired in the area.

When they arrived they found two victims. 32-year-old Corey Ray was found in the living room with a gunshot wound in his buttocks and 18-year-old Anastasia Ray was found with a gunshot wound to the head.

While helping her, police noticed she was seven to eight months pregnant.

Both Corey and Anastasia were taken to the hospital where Anastaista and her child died.

Witnesses say a light colored SUV was seen driving by the home and firing multiple shots, and officers say they found around 20 shell casings at the scene.

Anastaista Ray's mother, Talisha Ray, tells news outlets her daughter was due Sept. 26.

Community members and police officers have begun taking to the streets and knocking on doors in order to let people know they are working diligently to solve these crimes in the area and prevent them from reoccurring.

Officers say they still have no leads in the shooting death but are hoping this type of outreach will help them gather more information.
