INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. -- School kids in Union County are heading back to the classroom with a fresh set of supplies, a new haircut, and sneakers. These were just some of the free offerings at the Back to School Bash Sunday in Indian Trail.

  • The annual event gives to underserved families
  • A report says parents will spend an average of $516 on supplies for their kids this year
  • The bash serves 3,000 to 5,000 kids each year

Put on by several church congregations, Pastor Scott Ireland of Stallings United Methodist Church explained their annual event gives underserved families a bit of respect, relief, and love.

"I've got situations that are just hair-raising what people are going through. We want to give them all the support we can," Ireland said.

Consulting company Deloitte reports that parents will spend an average of $516 on supplies for their kids this year. It's money that Josh Creasy and his family can now save.

"All that money will come out of other funds we need for food and electric bills. All things the family needs so it's a great help to alleviate costs," said Creasy.

The bash serves 3,000 to 5,000 kids each year.
