CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Some people are playing a game to help fight breast cancer in Charlotte.

  • The money raised from the games will pay for 53 mammograms for low-income women
  • Williams lost his mom, Sandra Hill, to breast cancer
  • The program is in partnership with the Levine Cancer Institute

Former Panthers player DeAngelo Williams' 53 Strong for Sandra Cornhole Tournament is trying to make a difference for women who can’t always afford treatment.

The money raised from the games will pay for 53 mammograms for low-income women. Williams lost his mom, Sandra Hill, to breast cancer and wants to see other women survive.

"I think you should have a mammogram anytime you have an opportunity to get one to get one because you never know when that lump or whatever something may arise,” he said.

The 53 patients are supported financially if they're diagnosed with breast cancer. Patrice Bidgood says the program covered the cost of her $30,000 surgery.

"Knowing that you have a disease in your body,” Bidgood says, “I think that kind of takes some stress off by them helping to finance your bills."

The winner of the tournament gets tickets to a Panther's game. The program is in partnership with the Levine Cancer Institute.
