A popular diner is closing Sunday after more than half-a-century of business in Queens.

"I got nowhere to go for breakfast. I'm retired eight years and they just treat you like family, all the time," said one loyal customer.

The Flagship Diner in Briarwood has been a neighborhood staple for 53 years, but it is making way for a planned apartment building.

The diner's lease was slated to last until October 2019, but the management company bought the owners out last month to speed up the process.

Patrons said the loss leaves a hole in their community.

"The first thing that caught my attention, it has a parking lot, and in Queens you don't have parking lots for diners. But what kept me coming back was the service. The people here are friendly, attentive, and it's a pleasure to sit down," said another customer.

The owners of the Flagship Diner say the diner never once closed once in these 53 years. They said had to call a locksmith to put a new lock on the door because they never even had a key.
