FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- There’s going to be a lot of baseball played in the new downtown stadium in Fayetteville.

  • It was announced Wednesday that the Big South Conference will be bringing its baseball tournament to the city for the next three years
  • In about 265 days the new Fayetteville minor league team will begin playing baseball at the stadium
  • About 40 days after that, the first of those Big South baseball tournaments will begin

It was announced Wednesday that the Big South Conference will be bringing its baseball tournament to the city for the next three years.

"People in Fayetteville are overjoyed about this announcement,” said Jim Arp, Fayetteville city councilman. "Fayetteville now is no longer a second tier metro area of the state. We are first tier metro area and the ability to bring in a major Division I conference like the Big South is very substantial."

In about 265 days the new Fayetteville minor league team will begin playing baseball at the stadium.

About 40 days after that, the first of those Big South baseball tournaments will begin.
