Congressman Walter Jones is sponsoring a resolution that would make it an impeachable offense for a president to go to war without getting congressional approval.

Jones said his legislation is about holding administrations accountable and waking up Congress to its constitutional powers.

"If congress does not debate sending your son and daughter to die for this congress, then we don’t need a congress anyway," he said at a press conference Wednesday. "Nothing is more sacred than to send a young a woman or man to die for this country."

Jones pointed to two incidents in recent memory as examples of questionable military actions: Obama's intervention in Libya and Trump's missile attack on Syria.

Jones told reporters his resolution has nothing to do with the Trump administration. He said instead, it is an idea he has been working on for some time now.

Currently, no hearing is scheduled on this resolution.
