IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. -- Officials are investigating a deadly crash involving two Iredell County Sheriff's Office employees Wednesday afternoon.

The collision happened on Taylorsville Highway west of Statesville at 1:41 p.m. 

According to the department, one of the deputies involved was on duty and attempted to make left turn into a parking lot. That is when the other deputy, who was off duty, was traveling on the same highway on a motorcycle. Cpl. Bill Wood, who was on the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputy Justin Betts has been placed on administrative leave as the crash is being investigated.
