HOPE MILLS, N.C. -- A Hope Mills man was arrested Monday and charged after police say he tried to kill his wife with ant poison.

  • Eugene Pittman is charged with trying to kill his wife.
  • Warrants show Pittman's wife noticed a funny taste in her food.
  • Pittman is due back in court next month.

Eugene Pittman, 59, is charged with attempted first-degree murder for the incident.         

According to newly released arrest warrants, Eugene's wife noticed a funny taste in her meal on May 12.

She said she then later woke up to find her hands and mouth duct taped and her husband holding her nose shut.

She said Pittman told her she had two choices: leave or die.

Pittman is next expected in court in August.
