Eric Campbell, 29, is accused of stealing from and attacking a disabled couple in their wheelchairs earlier this month.

Police said Campbell robbed a 65-year old man and his 78-year old wife on July 6 in the 300 block of Chestnut Street.

Police also said Campbell yanked a chain off the woman and then tried to snatch rings of her finger, causing her to be injured.

However, the elderly man was able to fight off Campbell, who then ran away.

Both victims were then checked out at the hospital.

A neighbor of the victims, Sherman Hinson, urged the judge to raise Campbell's bond from $25,000 to $150,000. In the end, the judge issued a $100,000 bond.

Outside of court, Campbell's friends and family angrily confronted Hinson but he didn't back down and that led to some tense moments lasting a few minutes.

"No wonder what he would've done to those folks. And I'm not going to stand by here and let these people just say anything or do anything like that want to,” said Hinton. “Because somebody is going to stand-up for our senior citizens because one damn thing for sure… if they live long enough, they'll be senior citizens too."

Campbell is set to come back to court in August.
