ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. -- After two months Wendy Doric finally got to meet the two deputies that saved her fathers life.

  • Two Alexander County deputies are being commended for saving a man's life.
  • The man fell into cardiac arrest and his family called 911.
  • They were first on the scene in just two and a half minutes and began CPR immediately.

Deputies Davey Fortner and Lee Hoyle were first on scene after Doric's mother called 911 on May 1 when her father, Murray Walker, fell out of his chair in cardiac arrest.

Deputies began CPR on Walker and were about to use an AED when paramedics arrived and took over.

Walker was put on life support. Four hours prior to removing life support, Walker started blinking. He suffered brain damage but is now awake in the hospital and talking.

"He didn't have a heart beat. We fall back on our training one hundred percent," said deputy sheriff Davey Fortner.

Doctors told his daughter that by the deputies arriving on scene in just two and a half minutes, it saved his life.

"They gave us our dad back. They gave my kids their paw paw back," said Doric.
