LILLINGTON, N.C. -- A teen charged with killing a Harnett County man in June appeared before a judge Tuesday morning.

Jarelle Ballentine, 18, faces first degree murder charges in the case.

Alma Isabell Correa Portillo, 17, is also charged with murder, kidnapping and robbery.

Detectives believe the pair gunned down 28-year-old Kyle Jarrett on June 21.

So far, a motive hasn’t been released, but investigators believe the suspects initially tried to rob Jarrett. It’s also unclear if the pair knew him.

Harnett County deputies arrested Portillo last week and she faced a judge on Thursday but Ballentine remained on the run several days thereafter.

The pair remains behind bars without bond.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the Harnett County Sheriff's Office at 910-893-9111.
