ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. -- The Rowan County community laid one of their own to rest Monday.

  • Volunteer firefighter Michael Goodnight died last Wednesday in a car accident
  • First responders from all over the state came to pay their respects
  • The two other women involved in the accident are out of the hospital and doing okay

Volunteer firefighter Michael Goodnight died last Wednesday in a car accident while responding to another call.

Monday, first responders from all over the state came to pay their respects. Emergency management chief Chris Soliz says not only does the support help the families, it also helps build up the department in the time of need.

"They know that all the other family, the first responder family has everything covered,” Soliz said. “All their needs were covered, so they didn’t feel like they needed to focus on anything except each other.”

The two other women involved in the accident are out of the hospital and doing okay, according to their families. Rowan County Emergency Services are all hoping for a speedy recovery for them.
