NORTH CAROLINA -- Congresswoman Alma Adams made her way to Texas Sunday to tour the Southwest Key Center at Casa Padre.

  • Congresswoman Adams visited children in Texas Sunday
  • She says what is going is "un-American"
  • She says Congress needs to work across the aisle on immigration

Her trip put her alongside several other representatives and senators all hoping for some insight about what's going on with the children who've been separated from parents and loved ones at the border.

"Just very concerning to me that we have mistreated people,” said Adams. “Very un-American what's going on here."

Although a court order says all children under the age of five must be back with their parents by Tuesday, a hearing Monday will determine whether the deadline will be extended. The Trump Administration asked for the extension last week.

Adams says Congress needs to work across the aisle on legislation regarding immigration.

"There's some bipartisan bills out here. We need to make sure we resolve this issue and make sure it never happens again," she said.
