TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. -- The Alexander County Health Department is investigating a possible E. coli outbreak.

  • There have been more than 30 reports of people getting sick
  • Specialists have inspected the Mexico Viejo restaurant
  • If you think you have symptoms call the county's health department at 828-632-9704           

Since Wednesday, the department received more than 30 reports of people getting sick after they ate chicken at Mexico Viejo on Highway 90.         

Friday, environmental health specialists inspected the restaurant. So far, they have not received any other reports of illnesses.

E. coli is a bacteria that causes stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting and sometimes a low-grade fever.  If you ate at the restaurant Wednesday and are now having symptoms, call the Alexander County Health Department at 828-632-9704.
