CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Officials say 11 cars are damaged and several of those cars are totaled after a fire broke out at Carowinds' parking lot Friday afternoon.

Crews from the Flint Hill Fire Department and the Charlotte Fire Department responded to the scene just before 3:30 p.m. It took nearly 30 minutes for them to control the blaze, according Flint Hill's fire chief.

MEDIC did not transport anyone. It is unknown what started the fire that sent black smoke into the air that could be seen from miles away. The York County Fire Department is investigating.
