CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Big news for those looking for employment. Hundreds of jobs may be coming to the Queen City!

  • Distribution center could bring 1,500 new jobs
  • No salary range has been released
  • It's a $200 million investment that could bring $14 million worth of incentives

A new distribution center is thought to be coming to the region soon.

A source close to the project says about 1,500 new jobs could be coming as soon as next year. That's more than double the number of jobs out of the four major jobs announcements we've had this year in Mecklenburg County.

Those jobs would be located near the airport. No salary range has been released at this time, but what we do know is those jobs will include benefits and pay above market rate. The median income in Charlotte is about $57,000.

We also know this is a $200 million capital investment. Monday night, Charlotte City Council will vote on several action items associated with what they're calling “Project Quattro” including one to provide $14 million worth of incentives.

The property where this distribution center would go is currently owned by the airport. The city would be selling it to the company.

The big question remains: Who is this company involved? Of course, when you hear distribution center, Amazon comes to mind. However, there's no word at this time if that's the case.

Earlier this year when the short list for Amazon's second headquarters was announced, Charlotte did not make the cut.

No one on the record has confirmed that this is for an Amazon distribution center. All of the city's dealings on "Project Quattro" are going through "CF Hippolyta Charlotte LLC."

In Greek mythology, Hippolyta is queen of the Amazons.
