MATTHEWS, N.C. -- A teen in Matthews is accused of stabbing and killing his brother.

  • Police say Shameir Johnson killed his brother Assim Johnson.
  • Assim Johnson was taken to Novant Health Matthews with a stab wound, where he later died.
  • Shameir Johnson fled before being found by police. 

Shameir Johnson, 19, is charged with the murder of 25-year-old Assim Johnson.

The stabbing happened at their home in the 2100 block of Candlelight Woods Drive.

When officers arrived on the scene after a call reporting an assault, they were told there had been an altercation between the brothers. 

Assim Johnson was taken to Novant Health Matthews with a stab wound, where he later died. 

Police say Shameir Johnson left the scene before being found by officers and taken into custody.

He's being held at the Mecklenburg County Jail on first degree murder charges.
