Another scorcher across the region Tuesday will only lead into another hot day Wednesday.

  • A third day of heat is in store.
  • Slightly cooler temperatures are coming.
  • Better chance of showers and storms starting Wednesday.

As the hot weather pattern breaks down for the end of the work week, we'll usher in some slightly cooler conditions along with better chances for showers and storms.

The upper-level ridge of high pressure that has kept us so hot for the past few days will begin to break down starting Wednesday.

While hot high pressure will still be the dominant weather feature, expect a bit more cloud cover Wednesday along with a slightly better chance for showers and storms.

Highs will warm right back into the mid 90s for many this afternoon with heat index values in the upper 90s with maybe even a few areas seeing triple digit heat index values once again.

Thursday will bring better chances for storms and a bit more cloud cover. Even so, expect another hot and muggy day, with highs in the low to mid 90s (a hair cooler than Wednesday).

A front will push into the far northern third of the region late Thursday and stall out Friday, bringing temperatures back down into the mid and upper 80s.

Storm chances should be greatest this day before the front lifts back northward over the weekend and we usher in the return of hot conditions and minimal rain chances across the Piedmont.
