CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- American Airlines is still dealing with hundreds of flight cancellations on one of their regional carriers and officials say they don't know when the issue causing those cancellations and delays will be fixed.

Since Thursday, the airline has canceled at least 350 flights operated by their Ohio-based regional carrier PSA Airlines. Thousands of travelers are affected.

Sunday night, about 70 flights were canceled and Monday’s flights after 7 p.m. were also canceled for the carrier.

A spokeswoman said Monday the issue is affecting about 45 percent of regional flights arriving or departing from Charlotte. PSA handles the bulk of American's regional service in the Queen City.

"No, this is not a cyber security issue. It is a hardware, IT application issue. So they basically, as an example, we're having latency issues. So they're running really slow in our crew tracking and crew assignment. So we're having issues getting the crews assigned to the planes correctly,” said Katie Cody with American Airlines.

The airline said Monday they are giving affected passengers a refund if they want one or re-booking people with no penalty.

They've also handed out more than a thousand hotel vouchers. American Airlines could not provide an estimate on when things may return to normal.

However, some passengers are not taking the news well. While it's unknown whether the incident is tied to the PSA cancellations, police say a 24 year old woman broke a window near a valet parking station.

Her action was reportedly out of anger from her flight being canceled. She has sense been cited for damage to property.

American Airlines strongly suggest checking their website or app before heading to the airport.
