CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Dangerously hot conditions will persist into Tuesday as many areas will, once again, experience highs in the mid and upper 90s with heat indices over 100 degrees for some. Some relief is in sight as we head into the end of the work week.

  • Hot conditions will continue.
  • A cold front will push in Wednesday, resulting in small changes.
  • 90s will return for the weekend.

The upper-level ridge of high pressure that gave us a very hot day Monday will stay mostly intact for today, allowing for another afternoon of very hot conditions. Highs will soar into the mid and upper 90s with dew points in the upper 60s --- pushing the "feels like" temperature into the lower 100s for parts of the Piedmont. Expect mostly sunny skies with an isolated chance for storms across the mountains.

Small changes arrive Wednesday as a cold front begins pushing in from the north. While temperatures will only be about a degree or so cooler than Tuesday's, an increase in moisture across the area will allow for a slightly better chance for scattered showers and storms, through the focus will remain in the High Country. Temperatures will continue to cool through Friday back into the upper 80s as the cold front drops in then stalls across the region. This will also lead to a wetter pattern with decent rain and storm chances both Thursday and Friday. The "cool down," however, won't last long. The 90s return over the upcoming weekend for many.
