CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- After months of construction and planning, the Dowd YMCA is just weeks away from showing off it's new 50,000 square foot expansion.

  • Made possible by a $2 million donation from the Leon Levine Foundation
  • New additions include workout studios for yoga, barre classes, even crossfit
  • Once the expansion is completed in July, the current building will get some upgrades

The addition was made possible by a $2 million donation from the Leon Levine Foundation.

The new space will include several new workout studios for yoga, barre classes, even crossfit.

However, the fitness isn't staying indoors. The new turf roof comes complete with an outdoor track so people can workout with a view.

Haley Etz, the Associate Executive Director of Membership, says the goal was to bring the building into the 21st century, so members of all ages can get the workout fix they need.

"Folks that go to different fitness facilities throughout the city, they might go to a cycle studio, they might go to a yoga studio, this is kind of your one-stop-shop for everything under the sun," Etz says.

Once the expansion is completed in July, the current building will get some upgrades as well. Those are expected to be finished by the end of 2018.
