FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Neighbors in Hollywood Heights will have to wait almost two years before the Louise Street bridge will reopen.

  • Back in January, the city closed the bridge near Skibo Road for safety issues.
  • The bridge isn't expected to be finished until Spring 2020.
  • The cost of the project will be at least $1.5 million

Back in January, the city closed the bridge near Skibo Road for safety issues. Bidding for the bridge won't happen until September 2019.

The City of Fayetteville's engineer said the construction will take six to eight months to complete. The bridge isn't expected to be finished until Spring 2020.

City officials said the North Carolina Department of Transportation added the Louise Street bridge project to the State Transportation Improvement Program, which is a federal grant that'll cover 80% of the cost.

The City of Fayetteville will pay for the remaining balance.

"By this being an inconvenience, the traffic is higher, it's not as safe for the children to play on the front lawns now," neighbor, Mary Spady said. "It's just not very good. So hopefully when they finish the bridge, it'll be better."

The cost of the project will be at least $1.5 million.
