CHESTER, S.C. -- Two men are in custody in Chester, South Carolina for shooting a 14-year-old girl during a drive by shooting on Sunday night.

The sheriff's office says Jada Jones was an innocent bystander.

Rapheal Carter, 21, is charged with murder and firing a weapon into an occupied dwelling and 19-year-old Hezekiah Tinsley is charged with accessory after the fact.

Jones was found unresponsive with a bullet wound to her left arm.

According to arrest warrants, Tinsley helped Carter escape by driving the getaway car.

The woman who lives in the house where the shooting happened says her son was the intended target.

“They actually let people know that they were going to shoot up this house, but nobody never told me,” said Kristy Thompson.

Chester County Sheriff Alex Underwood says despite some naysayers, gangs do exist in the community and he wants the culture of silence to end.

The suspects are due back in court in September.

Jones recently attended Rawlinson Road Middle School in the Rock Hill school district.
