NORTH CAROLINA – A recall for fresh cut watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe and fresh fruit medley products with either of those items produced at Caito Foods Facility is in effect due to salmonella infections.

  • Fruit sold at Costco, Kroger, Trader Joes, Walgreens, Walmart and Whole Foods/Amazon.
  • The recall is for pre-cut melons produced at Caito Foods Facility in Indianapolis, Indiana.
  • Sixty people infected so far.

The Centers for Disease control say consumers should check their refrigerators and throw away or return the product for a refund. Check to see if your pre-cut melons were distributed by Caito Foods Distribution, Gordon Food Service and SpartanNash Distribution.

The items were sold in clear, plastic containers at several stores including Costco, Kroger, Sprouts, Trader Joes, Walgreens, Walmart and Whole Foods/Amazon.

So far, 60 people have been infected and there are no reported deaths.

Diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps are common symptoms of the infection.

In addition to North Carolina, other states impacted are Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri and Ohio.

The investigation is ongoing to determine if other states or products are impacted.
