Alberto will be working across the Gulf of Mexico this weekend and shoving tropical moisture across the Southeast.

  • Alberto is considered at "sub-tropical" system
  • Unlikely to become a hurricane if it remains a sub-tropical system
  • Scattered showers and storms for Memorial Day

It is not unusual to have these early season systems; we've had them before, we had one in April of last year. Don't by the hype, if any exists.

As of this post, Alberto was still considered a "sub-tropical" system and not a "tropical" system.  Basically, a cold core system versus a warm core (tropical) system.  If the storm holds as sub-tropical, it's unlikely to become a hurricane.

Scattered showers and storms will be the norm each day through weekend and next week.  Blanket coverage shouldn't be the norm.  What showers do fire up, given the influx of tropical moisture, will be big rain producers. Flooding may become an issue, for some areas, later next week as rainfall totals build. Expect 3-5 inches of rain possible, in total, by later next week.

I'm thinking the Coca Cola 600 has a 50 percent chance of being fully run; or at least, 200 laps being completed Sunday evening.  We'll have to see where the showers and storms, develop on Sunday. I can't pinpoint that exact time and location of cells, just understand we'll have active storms in the region.

Memorial Day will have scattered showers and storms as well. Both Sunday and Monday, won't be total washouts, but I'm not expecting "Chamber of Commerce" weather either.  If outside, and you hear thunder, it's time to get inside.  Be safe.
