CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- RuRu’s Tacos + Tequila serves tacos you want to munch on, in a venue you want to show off.

  • Famous for its a la carte tacos
  • The building is a Tuscan-style home built in the 1920s
  • Specialty Dish: Fat Guy in a Little Coat -- steak taco with cilantro marinated skirt steak topped with fresh lettuce, queso fresco cilantro and avocado aioli

“It’s this little charm that’s tucked back here in Myers Park,” RuRu’s co-owner Sean O’Brien said. “It’s kind of a little gem in Charlotte.”

RuRu’s is inside “The Villa,” a Tuscan-style home built in the 1920’s.

“The space that we have used to be the old pool, originally in the house in the inside,” O’brien said. “The outside used to be the old courtyard here. And, obviously, we turned this into one of the nicest patios in the city.”

The fireplace and dining rooms that used to belong to the original owner, Blanche Reynolds, now serve as the setting for an intimate date night or family outing. A setting some say Blanche haunts to this day.

“If you have  plate or glass that slips off [the table], maybe its the ghost that’s trying to get you to finish up,” O’Brien said.

But, the real attraction isn’t the ghosts in the walls, it’s the food on the plate.

“Dishes from kind of all of over the world and different plays on different types of the world,” O’Brien said.

RuRu’s is famous for it’s a la carte tacos. Giving you the option to mix and match styles and tastes.

“Simple ingredients,” O’Brien said. “You don’t have to complicate things.”

So whether you’re attracted by the looks of the food, or the venue, it’s the tastes that keeps people coming back to RuRu’s Tacos + Tequila.
