CHARLOTTE -- After a rocky moment with the City of Charlotte, Lime can officially bring back their electric scooters.

  • Lime caught flack a few weeks ago for launching illegally.
  • New protocol allows the company to place 50-100 scooters around Charlotte.
  • Spin and newcomer Bird will also launch

Monday marked the start of a new permit program that includes 3 companies - Lime, Spin, and newcomer Bird.

Lime caught flack a few weeks ago for launching illegally. This new protocol allows each company to place 50-100 scooters around Charlotte.

"Instead of putting mandates on them, we reviewed their own policies.... We got comfortable with their protocols instead of figuring out what the regualtion needed to be,” said Charlotte council member Tariq Bokhari.

Lime applied for their permit Monday. Spin says they're finalizing deployment plans, and Bokhari is meeting with Bird to hear their specs.
