YORK COUNTY,  S.C. -- A York County inmate died after being found unresponsive in his cell Friday.

• Found inside jail cell on Friday
• Officers tried to resuscitate him
• SLED is investigating

The sheriff's office says detention officers performed CPR but weren't able to resuscitate the man, whose name has not been released.

Rock Hill police arrested the inmate on March 6 for shoplifting. He also faced charges of possession of marijuana and contraband in jail.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating.
