HIGH POINT, N.C. -- High Point police are investigating an officer-involved shooting and a homicide.

  • Suspect claimed to have killed his father and claimed to be suicidal
  • Officers responded to 1500 block of Overbrook Court
  • Suspect opened fire on officers but was later taken into custody

Police responded to a call just before 6 a.m. Wednesday morning at the 1500 block of Overbrook Court, after receiving a phone call from a woman saying her 21-year-old brother showed up at her apartment covered in blood, claiming to have killed their father. The woman also said her brother was going to commit suicide.

Officers arrived at the scene on Overbrook Court and were fired at by the suspect from the roof of the residence.

Officers returned fire, shot the suspect and he was taken into custody.  He was taken to Baptist Hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Officers also responded to 207D Dorothy Street, where they discovered a man shot to death. Authorities say they are investigating it as a homicide.

The identity of the victim and the suspect have not yet been released.
