GASTON COUNTY, N.C. -- Police in Mount Holly are investigating an officer-involved shooting Monday night.

• A man was found holding a small child with a knife in his hand.
• He threatened to kill the child and an officer fired his weapon.
• The suspect was hit in the thigh and the child was not hurt. 

Officers received a call about a disturbance at a home on Park Avenue just before 7 p.m.

When they arrived, they found a man holding a small child with a knife in his hand.

They say the man threatened to kill the child. The officer fired his weapon, hitting the suspect in the thigh.

The man was taken to the hospital. The child was not hurt.

The officer is on administrative leave during the investigation.
