KANNAPOLIS, N.C. -- As teachers prepare to march in Raleigh, some parents are still trying to figure out child care for the unexpected day off.

Two YMCA’s in Cabarrus County have a solution: free passes for kids in middle school and high school.

Kannapolis YMCA director Philip Belfield says the staff made a quick decision when they heard Cabarrus County and Kannapolis City Schools would be closed for the rally.

For a small fee, parents can enroll their younger children in their kid’s day out program.

"We want to help meet their need and you know do what we can to help keep things rolling for parents and keep their day as normal as possible,” says Belfield.

Space is limited for the kid’s day out program. Belfield says make sure to call in advance to register your elementary school child for the program.

The west Cabarrus YMCA is also offering the same programs throughout the day for students in the area.
