CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Limebike says the company is halting its electric scooter program in the city of Charlotte as they work with the city to finalize details.

The city sent a cease and desist order to the company that took effect Friday requiring it to stop operations. City leaders claim the company did not obtain the proper permits.

The cease and desist order prohibited the scooters from being placed on public rights of way. Councilman  Tariq Bokhari says Charlotte is working on its own dockless scooter share program and that more scooters may be coming to the Queen City.

Bokhari says he expects the city to start issuing permits as soon as May 21. Right now, there are at least two companies working with the city to legally bring dockless scooters to Charlotte.
