CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A 46-year-old man has been arrested after police say he held his wife hostage by holding a knife at her throat Friday night.

  • Mark Drehs was arrested Friday after holding his wife hostage with a knife.
  • SWAT team had to enter apartment to arrest him.
  • This is not the first time he has been arrested for a domestic incident.

Friday, police were called to the wife's home on Corondo Drive and Mark Drehs was there. Upon arrival, he refused to cooperate with CMPD for hours and a SWAT team had to storm the couple's apartment to arrest him.

Drehs' victim, his wife, was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries. Physically speaking, she is expected to be okay although she says he put a knife to her throat. She says she was able to throw the knife out a door at some point.

Drehs is charged with assault by pointing a gun, first degree kidnapping, assault on a female, and resisting a public officer.

This is not the first time Drehs has been charged in a domestic incident. Since 2015, he has been arrested four times by CMPD for crimes such as violating a protective order, assault on a female, and communicating threats.

The "magistrate office is severely lacking," she said.

His wife says he has harassed her since 2009 and wants to see a longer sentencing for violating protective orders.
