WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Police arrested a man in connection to the shooting of three horses along the Muddy Creek Greenway last weekend.

  • Alonzo Cross faces multiple charges.
  • Police investigating found two horses shot.
  • One horse died.

Nineteen-year-old Alonzo Cross faces multiple charges including cruelty to animals, possession of stolen firearm, possession of stolen motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, and contributing to delinquency of a juvenile.

A search of Cross' home found two shotguns, three rifles and a handgun that were all previously reported stolen.

Police say Cross and three other 15-year-old boys were speeding down the Muddy Creek Greenway after the horses were shot on May 12.

When officers arrived, they discovered shell casings that indicated multiple firearms being used in the area.

A short while later, officers also located two horses that had been shot. One horse died at the scene and the other is expected to be okay.

Surveillance pictures seemed to show a blue Ford Bronco, a yellow Ford Ranger, or Mazda B-series, and a dark sedan entering the parking lot at the greenway.

Cross was taken to Frosyth County Jail under $120,000 bond. He is expected to appear in court Friday.
