CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A Charlotte police officer is accused of stealing from a grocery store for months.

  • Samuel Yarivitz faces seven shoplifting charges
  • He is suspended without pay
  • Happened at a Harris Teeter grocery store from February until May

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says Samuel Yarivitz is charged with seven counts of larceny. He is accused of shoplifting from a Harris Teeter located on Morrrison Boulevard between February and May of this year.

CMPD Chief Kerr Putney says Yarivitz is suspended without pay as the investigation continues.

“We are charged with upholding and enforcing the law and will continue to hold ourselves accountable when we violate it,” the police chief said. “I am disappointed that a member of our department has fallen short of our organization’s high standards.”

The department says Yarivitz has been an officer at the department since 1999. Investigators say he may face additional charges.
